Sitges is a charming, small town on Catalonia’s stunning coastline. If you want a beach town near Barcelona or a day trip, Sitges is the best option. It is a more happening, great texture of sand and a even a quieter place than Barcelona beach. It is a small, beautiful town with a few areas with white and blue walls, rich artistic heritage and a lively food scene. Sitges has become a major destination for the LGBTQ+ community. It hosts a Sitges Pride festival every year.

You can reach Sitges by direct R2 Sud train, which takes about 45 minutes from Barcelona Sants station. The accommodation is fairly expensive in this town; if planning an overnight stay, then book in advance. Superstar player the great MESSI has invested in a hotel in Sitges, and also many investments are up for grabs there by the rich and famous.

My only recommendation in Sitges is to relax. We went there to have a good beach day, which we absolutely did, with both our kids doing sand digging, making pits, getting water in the bucket and a bit of swimming. The beaches are large and inviting, and do bring your own chair, towel, and umbrella if you can. If you are interested in cultural events, then check Sitges Film Festival dates beforehand and other local festivals or exhibitions, as few people do visit Cau Ferrat Museum and Maricel Museum. Wandering the streets of old town Sitges gives a dreamy vibe because of the whitewashed and blue walls and doors.

They are lined with cafes and bars serving some amazing food and sangria. The Church of Sant Bartomeu sits on the edge of the street, seemingly perched over the beach, but we couldn’t visit as kids were not ready to leave the beach. Eat around the waterfront promenade; try pinxtos, seafood, grilled prawns, fresh calamari, along with refreshing sangria.

Sitges is small but has a big reputation, and it lives up to it. It is by far one of the most relaxing and best day trips from bustling Barcelona.
